HDD OPERATOR
JOB SUMMARY:
An HDD Operator operates horizontal directional drilling equipment to install underground utilities while working as part of a crew. This role supports jobsite safety, comletes daily logs, performs equipment maintenance, and assists with other duties as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES:
- Work as a part of a crew and lead the drill crew when Supervisor/Manager is not on site.
- Assist with JSA’s and constantly being on the lookout for changing conditions.
- Daily Paperwork and logging of bores/production.
- Able to trouble shoot basic mechanical errors and maintain equipment, including greasing grease points and power washing after use.
- A valid and unrestricted CDL Class A with tankers endorsement.
- Handle physically demanding construction.
- Assist team members in placing underground conduit, manual labor, and shovel work when not operating equipment.
- Must be able to sit, stand, bend, walk, and drive in a company vehicle for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift, push, pull >50lbs. at any given time while working.
- Performs all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment (PPE).
- Represent Das-Co of Idaho with customer base in positive, and helpful manner.
QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred. Any vocational training is strongly desired.
- Those with an education and/or work-related credential from a secondary or post-secondary educational system will be given preferred interview status (Precision Exams, NOCTE, etc.).
- Strong knowledge regarding the operation, safety, and maintenance of equipment being used.
- Ability to safely operate equipment around utilities, field personnel, structures, property, etc.
- Ability to read and understand specifications, safety, and quality standards, and effectively utilizing all tools and equipment relevant to the work.
- Ability to detect unsafe or hazardous conditions of equipment and work environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to get to and from work.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Able and willing to work long hours including day, night, weekend shifts as needed, and work outside of normal hours.
- Able to walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
- Able to work in outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, and job hazards.
- Good hand-eye coordination.
