PIPE FUSER – NATURAL GAS<\/p>\n
JOB SUMMARY:
\nPipe Fusers have the responsibility of constructing and installing HDPE or plastic gas piping systems of all sizes, by means of fusion. Pipe Fusers also modify, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, clean, and maintain new and existing underground gas distribution piping systems and related equipment, following specifications and using hand and power tools. The Pipe Fuser is essential in communicating with other team members regarding the excavating activities associated with installing the pipe, to ensure work is performed safely and efficiently.<\/p>\n
RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES:<\/p>\n
Including but not limited to the list below.<\/p>\n
\u2022\tConstruct, install, and maintain piping systems, appurtenances, and equipment for natural gas utilities.
\n\u2022\tJoin plastic polyethylene piping by means of fusion, electrofusion, or mechanical coupled joints.
\n\u2022\tInstallation and replacement of existing HDPE gas mains & services.
\n\u2022\tMeasure and mark pipes for cutting.
\n\u2022\tLayout of pipe, supports, and related equipment, following blueprints.
\n\u2022\tLocate existing pipes needing repair or replacement.
\n\u2022\tVerify specifications by performing quality assurance tests.
\n\u2022\tCover pipes with earth or other materials, and compact using compaction equipment.
\n\u2022\tWork safely around backhoes, excavators, trenchers, and dump trucks, and fusion equipment including heating irons.
\n\u2022\tLoad and unload equipment and materials.
\n\u2022\tClean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
\n\u2022\tAssist equipment operators by hand digging, and locating underground obstructions as needed.
\n\u2022\tWork with specialized equipment including line stop machines (Pinchers), tapping machines, fusing machines, and other necessary tools.
\n\u2022\tInspect and test pipe systems for leaks.
\n\u2022\tAssist the equipment operator to dig trenches to desired or required depths, and proper slopes.
\n\u2022\tMaintain documentation per customers\u2019 requirements
\n\u2022\tAssist Construction Laborers with labor duties.
\n\u2022\tAwareness of working near roadways, understanding traffic control, and knowledge of Blue Stakes laws and safety standards.
\n\u2022\tOther duties and responsibilities may be assigned by crew Foreman, or project Superintendent.<\/p>\n
QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS:
\n\u2022\tHigh School Diploma or GED preferred. Any vocational training is strongly desired.
\n\u2022\tThose with an education and\/or work-related credential from a secondary or post-secondary educational system will be given preferred interview status (Precision Exams, NOCTE, etc.).
\n\u2022\tKnowledge and experience in underground utility construction work is preferred, but not required.
\n\u2022\tAbility to detect unsafe or hazardous conditions of equipment and work environment.
\n\u2022\tExcellent written and verbal communication skills.
\n\u2022\tAbility to work effectively in a team environment.
\n\u2022\tObtain DOT\/Dominion Energy Fusion Certification
\n\u2022\tObtain OQ Certification.
\n\u2022\tValid driver\u2019s license and reliable transportation to get to and from work.<\/p>\n
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
\n\u2022\tAble and willing to work long hours including day, night, weekend shifts as needed, and work outside of normal hours.
\n\u2022\tAble to walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
\n\u2022\tAble to work in outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, and job hazards.
\n\u2022\tAbility to work around live natural gas lines.<\/p>\n
